WINNIPEG WILDFLOWER PROJECT

Picture

The Winnipeg Wildflower Project was established in the spring of 2019 with a goal of restoring urban spaces to native prairie habitat.

In our first two years, with the help of our partner, Prairie Originals, we've planted seed plot sites around Winnipeg to establish a source for native wildflower and grass seed. The seed will be harvested and used for future prairie restoration and planting projects within the city.

These seed plots and restored sites will provide critical habitat for native pollinators and wildlife. They will also add beauty to our public spaces and provide plenty of opportunity for educational and volunteer experiences.

We hope you'll consider joining us with this goal and help to create a wilder Winnipeg! Stay tuned for updates in 2021!

Bishop Grandin Greenway Seed Plots

In spring 2019 we teamed up with the Bishop Grandin Greenway team and installed 16 plots of native wildflowers and grasses along the walking/biking trail at the corner of St. Mary's and Bishop Grandin. These plots were made possible with a Rising Youth grant from Taking It Global.

Point Douglas Seed Plots

In Spring 2020, we teamed up with the Point Douglas Community Gardens and installed 22 plots of native wildflowers and grasses by the community orchard along Euclid Avenue. These plots were made possible by donations from supportive community members.
